The shopping cart abandonment rate has increased to 75% in the first 6 months of 2011. The rate, which averaged 71% for 2010, measures the proportion of online shopping carts that are started, and then abandoned.

Normal seasonal trends have the rate decreasing in the first half of the year, declining further over the summer months, then spiking in anticipation of holiday promotions being rolled out.

56 percent of Canadians are comfortable with never having to handle cash to make a purchase and many would prefer to use a digital wallet when shopping, a recent survey has unveiled.

According to a study conducted by the Canadian research company Leger Marketing on behalf of PayPal Canada, 34 percent of respondents involved in the survey would rather carry a mobile phone to carry out a payment than a pocket full of change.

The study has also pointed out that 36 percent of Canadians would carry out mobile payments for a wide variety of purchases, including more expensive devices such as an iPod.  Furthermore, the study has indicated that nearly 40 percent of the surveyed respondents find the mobile phone more convenient because they can make transactions whenever and wherever they want while 60 percent of respondents would find it appealing not to look for a bank machine every time they need to pay someone back.

In Canada, PayPal provides its digital wallet to more than 4 million customers allowing them to pay and get paid using their bank account, credit cards or PayPal balance from their computer, smartphone or virtually any internet-connected device.
